WHY WE TALK ABOUT FINANCES
Our work in PLAN panta ta Ethne is faith-based and we, as well as our entire community depend entirely upon the generous gifts and contributions of people interested in sharing their resources with those building the Kingdom of God. Our mission is to do all we can to build His Kingdom wherever we find ourselves, always keeping an eye to the Unengaged Unreached People Groups of the world. The only net result we have ever been able to show those who have so generously given over the years are the lives of those who have been transformed by virtue of our work and life, both here and abroad. Our principal focus is to recruit, train and then do all we can to mobilize Latin American cross-cultural workers to become agents of transformation among Unengaged and Unreached peoples in far-and-distant lands. We have been a part of the lives of some already sent out and continue to be in relationship with many others that we've come to know. There are many reasons we do this work; stay connected to this website and you'll learn why. |
We are now about five months into our 'partnership-development furlough' in this new ministry chapter [clic here to learn more] and in a word, "it ain't what it was a few decades ago!" First, we have less energy than we did for this strenuous activity than when we first went out in 1990. Second, we have encountered changed church leadership everywhere we've gone that in more than a few cases have expressed a 'new vision' that appears to us to be less concerned for strategic engagement of the Unengaged and Unreached Peoples of the world. And third, people in general seem to be clenching their resources more than we remember from years past. Of course, when we first did partnership-development about three decades ago there weren't costly smartphones needing upgraded every-other-year. The trend of greater challenge in support-raising is what we had been hearing and now know to be true. Nevertheless, we are seeing a slow-but-steady increase and are happy to report our $1,800.oo monthly deficit has been reduced to $1,500.oo. We are now using our two-decade ministry plan Target 6/18/54 [clic here to learn more] in prayer for our fund-raising strategy and this is how we pray:
• Six monthly commitments of $100.oo • Eighteen monthly commitments of $50.oo, and • Fifty-four monthly commitments of $5.oo If this strategy were accomplished we would achieve more than the present deficit and begin to see our AOS account grow beyond our monthly salary. Some say, "Really, only $5.oo a month? That's not even a Starbucks coffee!" and we reply, "We know, but a cumulative $5.oo a month adds up quickly and even more importantly demonstrates a heart for God as it encourages us with solidarity for the cause!" We remember a little old lady Cecilia years back who faithfully gave $5.oo a month until she died. We believe this not only brought joy to our Lord (remember the widow's mite?), but also joy for her as she fell into His arms at her death. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap
and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith
and pierced themselves with many griefs,
1 Timothy 6:6-10.
